Current Event #5

The topic of my article is Sony is trying to make a new piece of wearable technology called the  "SmartWig", now what this technology does isn't what you are probably thinking, I bet your are thinking that it helps you to become more intelligent.... WRONG, the wig is said to " help blind people navigate, check blood pressure even check brain waves" isn't that awesome? If you don't then you need to look up the definition of awesome and write in the comments. **remember you have to cite it!**

I have read this article from CNN Tech, which by the way is an AWESOME website, see what I did there? Anyways if you would like to read it yourself the URL is in this citation Petroff, Alanna. " Sony files patent for a "SmartWig"." cnn. Cable News Network, 27 Nov. 2013.  Web. 1 Dec. 2013. < http://money.cnn.com/2013/11/27/technology/sony-smartwig-patent/index.html >.

This advance in technology is amazing, but it also worries me, why? because it seems to me that we are so advanced and dependable on technology that we have forgotten to think what will happen if we have a major crash in the servers? In my opinion if we keep on the same road we are on when that day comes that technology does crash the people who did nothing but type on computers and use or depend heavily on technology, may have forgotten the basic writing with pencil and paper. That may sound far fetched but it is possible, anything is possible. It also causes a lot of deaths each year think of texting while driving, people that can't put their phones down long enough to drive from point A to point B are ridiculous, because not only are they putting their own life in danger but they are putting others in danger also. But back to the wig this is a great invention but we already have devices that check blood pressure and there are dogs that help blind people navigate, so why do we need to change those they work perfectly fine.

Bi-Weekly Current Event #4

Hey guys I am going to be talking to you about A Marine that has went missing, the cause of his runaway is thought to be PTSD that was developed not only when he lost his best friend in Iraq, but also exposure to violent video games (Call of Duty). The title of my article is "Missing Marine may have had PTSD Triggered By Playing Call of Duty." This article is from SlashGear, and this is the first time I have used this resource, and it seems to be a very good one. I try to use each one of the resources, so I can get a wide variety of articles, because each website  may have the same topics but one article may be worded differently so that I can understand it easier, and get more information out of it. Now back to the article to sum it up the marine comes back home from Iraq, where he was severely injured, and his friend was killed. He comes home and he starts to play these war games, Scott the writer of this article thinks he plays the games to feel like he is still over seas, and so he can see how the games relate to the real deal, Scott also compares him to Rambo the 80's classic War Veteran that has a major case of PTSD and goes on a rampage on the people in his town, so they think PTSD sinks in which alot of soldiers have that after being at war, because it takes a toll on the brain when you start killing other human beings, it's proven. Then he goes missing and is thought to be living off the land, his family has sent a search out for him. If I was this guy I would probably have tried to just be with my family and do things to keep my mind off the war zone. This event makes me feel maybe there shouldn't be war games, or maybe soldiers should be checked for signs of PTSD before coming back home and maybe the doctors can give them therapy to maybe try to relieve some of the painful memories to ease the mind. The guy that went missing isn't very old from the picture I seen of him, he honestly looks like a kid, and that makes me think you know he is young and his life isn't ever going to be normal or the same because of the sights and the views of death, he may not think about it every second of the day but I bet there isn't a day that goes by that he doesn't at least have a flashback of Iraq, and how is he supposed to explain to the family of his friend that was killed? I don't know about you but that would be hard for me. It makes me feel sad knowing he went in expecting a totally different ending than what he got, I guarantee he went in the Marines expecting to serve his country with his friends and coming out unscathed or with little injuries, but when he started to see death and bad scenery he probably thought what have I gotten myself into. Now don't take this blog as me disagreeing with being in the Military I have considered going into the Military myself , not only to serve my country but to show respect to the lost ones by finishing the duties they did not, and fighting for the freedom for me and my family and everyone else's freedom on this Earth, and that may be far fetched but you can't blame a guy for dreaming. I bet there has been a lot of people in this world that would take this the same as I did, I mean you know what your going into when you enter the Marines, you know you will have to fight when the day comes and your duty is needed, so my advice to all men and even women who want join the military you can't go in there expecting the best outcome you always have to consider all the outcomes there may be, but if you feel that is your calling because we all have one no one can hold you back, I have been taught we don't chase dreams, we run them down, so if you dream is going into the military I want you to know the risks that may come with it and that you can make it if you really want it.

Current Event #3

Hey guys the title of my article is "Zookal will deliver textbooks using drones in Australia next year", the topic of this article is how Zookal will deliver textbooks to Austrailia this coming year, they will deliver them by using drones or robots, they will be equipped with motion detectors to avoid potential obsticales such as people or buildings or things in that nature. This is the first time that this kind of thing has happened, people have delivered things with drones but never textbooks. Zookal claims that "once the drone has taken flight a delivery can be made in as little as two to three minutes. To me if  I ordered a text book and it was delivered in two to three minutes, that would be awesome, If they can carry textbooks then what else can they carry? Think about how long it takes when you order somehting off of ebay or Amazon, it takes at least half a week and at tops a whole week or more. I feel that delivering things with drones will be time efficient, but on the other hand people may be stupid and try to grab them when the bot comes down to deliver the book, and that could start a big commosion between citizens and Zookal. This event effects me personally because I am totally jealous, I want a delivering drome, they should spread their product across to North Carolina no where else. This event Could be the next step to world wide robots or it could help them build A motor that runs like the drones and put it in a car.

Bi weekly Blog post #3

Hey Guys today I am going to start off by telling you new terms we have studied:

  • Online Predator: A commonly used term for someone who uses the internet to develop inappropriate relationship with kids or teens.
  • Risky:potentially harmful to one's emotion.
  • Manipulate: trying to influence someone to do something they do not want to.
  • Stereotype: a popular belief about a certain race.

A New 2.0 tool we have learned this week is:

Animoto: Animoto is a like a powerpoint where you can add videos and audio clips and it is usually used to tell a story or for memories. It can also be thought of as a photo video collage thing where you have pictures of you baby's first words or steps. http://animoto.com

Make your own slideshow at Animoto.

The pros of animoto are that you can add photos and music or words that describe the pictures and it is easy to familiarize with the buttons and how to make and edit an Animoto. The cons of Animoto are how you have to make a copy of the old video just to edit it and once you edit the copied video you have to delete the older version of your updated version.

A Digital literacy component I have learned this week:

Risky Relationships: This topic covers how to avoid risky relationships by telling you how to evaluate a safe relationship and how to have a safe relationship with someone. It is going to help me by me being able to evaluate if the person I am in a relationship is safe or unsafe and it will help me pick my friends that will not drag me down but help me and give me good advice on things. It mostly will help me woth talking to people online because that is where most predators are because they can fake their identity very easily because you can't see them, I am glad that we have learned this component it blended well with our project for college becuase you have to evaluate peoples study habits.  This week has been a very complex week we have two projects that have been assigned but other than that it has been a good and efficient week.

Bi Weekly Blog Post #2

The title of my article is "Organic Food Delivery Service Good Eggs Raises $8.5M Series A From Sequoia Capital." The topic of my current event is How thee service of good eggs which is a company founded  raised 8.5 million dollars from Seqouia capital.  The article is talking about how A company founded by Rob Spiro and is called Good Eggs the company is starting to spread around the world. The company allows customers to purchase locally grown meat and vegetables that are all organic meaning naturally grown and there is no pestisides that has been put on them. Good Eggs is a delivery system so all products are delivered and people say that this is going to compete with CSA and other algricultural companies. My opinion on the company is happy and sort of concerned. I am happy about the company because that is another step towards organic food being sold instead of all this proccessed stuff that is terrible for your body and is grown with chemicals that could harm you and the enviroment. I am concerned about this company because when big bussiness compete they will do anything to get more sells than the other and make more money, to do that they might buy cheaper grains and plants so they will have a greater profit and if they do that then we will not be getting genuine organic foods that are worth the prices we may have to pay. It doesnt just impact me like this it impact alot of other people because organic products are very expensive and some people can't afford it so if the food sources all become organic then some families may starve or just have to live off of canned things that are cheaper and easier to store. A positive way it can impact the world is the world would become more healthy and maybe the diabetes and obesity percents will go down.

Blog Post # 2

1. New terms that I have learned this week:

  • Privacy: Your on personal information.
  • Digital Citizenship-  safe, responsible, and approach ethical to interacting online.
  • connected culture- treat others in a respectful manner and be kind.
  • Ethics: Set of morals about people's behavior it requires respect, honesty.

2. Web 2.0 tools i have learned:
  • Prezi: a website that is smiliar to googel presentation, but instead of slides it is bubbles and you have different themes that are more interesting an flashy.
3.Positive and negative aspects of Prezi are:

Prezi is a fantastic website for a presentation or PowerPoint when you want an interesting and attractive piece of work. It provides you with creative commons pictures that are free to use and share, also there are various backgrounds to fit your style or topic. the only down-side to the website is it is hard to put your information in the bubbles and when you add a new blank you have to move it around and adjust it to match the size of previous information bubbles or boxes.

4. A digital Literacy component i have learned this week:

Web Evaluation: is a process of questions where  you can determine if the website is accurate or dependent.
How do I evaluate?
1. Authority- Is the author identified?
2. Accuracy- Are the facts documented? What are the sources? Can you verify the facts from another source.
3. Bias- Is the author informing or persuading?
This digital component will be very helpful when I am getting information for a project or research. It will help me because I will know how to evaluate the site and see if it is trustworthy and so I can get information so i can get a good grade and learn my subject better.

6. My past week has been very stressful because of the amount of homework and the projects, but I have gotten it done because I have worked very hard until I finished my assignments that are due. Nothing interesting has happened this week because there has not been time to play around because of the amount of work.
