Walking a mile in a real NASA astronaut’s underwater shoes
1. The topic of my article is about how astronaut's train in pools with full suits on the get the zero gravity feel, when a failure occurs in the suits structure 40 ft. below the surface and divers have to save the astronaut.
2."Walking a mile in a real NASA astronaut’s underwater shoes".
3. Dunn,Terry. Walking a mile in a real NASA astronaut's underwater shoes. Arstechnica. Cond'e Nast, 4 Sept. 2013. Web. 6 Sept. 2013. <http://arstechnica.com/science/2013/09/walking-a-mile-in-a-real-life-nasa-astronauts-underwater-shoes/2/>.
4. The article starts off about how sometimes you feel like another piece of space junk getting sent into outer space and how the suit as like an over starched shirt still buttoned up and hanging in the closet, and that "if you are claustrophobic then you might as well rip your application form up right then" (Dunn). NASA was preforming an exercise course where an astronaut in full suit submerges 40 feet underwater to get the feel of the zero gravity effect, and then one of the seems break in the suit and he has a leak and scuba divers have to rush down and pull him up.
5. If i were in the astronauts position I would be very scared and uncomfortable because the suit is so heavy that you cannot swim so you have to wait till scuba silvers come and get you before you can come back above surface. I feel concerned about what happened to the astronaut suit because what if something like that happened while he was in outer space, he would have been killed if he didn't get oxygen soon. This event effects me because it makes me not want to become an astronaut because of the posing danger. It also concerns me by knowing that if something like that can happen in the suit, then what might happen to the rocket that takes them to outer space? I hope that they figure out the problem in the suit and get it fixed before someone gets hurt or even killed.
6.This event has to have an impact on the world or they wouldn't have mentioned it, my opinion is that it shows people that machines that make these suits can have glitches or mishaps. You shouldn't put all your trust in machines because they are man made and no man is perfect and they could slip up in a measurement and it could make the worlds difference. Another impact it could have on the world is the number of astronauts that want to apply for NASA because they may be afraid because of this accident. This kind of thing happens each and everyday but when you hear about it and how serious it can be then it makes you step back and think do i really want to do this?
